Did You Know?...

  • 40% of American Households do not have basic savings.

  • One in five (22.5%) jobs in the U.S. are in low wage occupations.

  • Despite wage and job growth, People of Color experience unemployment and poverty at significantly higher rates than White workers and households.

  • One in five household (20.1%) experience income volatility.

  • Nearly one in four (24.3%) Black households and 16.9% of Latino households fall behind on bills compared to 10.4% of White households.

  • 40% of households lack a basic personal safety net to sustain them during a financial crisis. 

  • 51.9% of consumers have prime credit scores- which means 50% of people with credit files in the U.S. cannot access credit at affordable (lower) interest rates.

  • 35.9% of Black home buyers and 31.2% of Latino home buyers did not use mainstream credit, resulting in subprime lenders, i.e., higher interest home loans.

  • One-third of Black and Hispanic household are "unbanked"(not served by a bank or similar financial institution).

  • Fewer than half (45.7%) of Black and (48.2%) of Latino households saved for an emergency (financial or related) versus 62.4% of White households.
